Photovoltaics, or PV for short, is a solar powered technology that uses solar photovoltaic arrays (solar cells) to provide electricity. The solar cells produce direct current (DC) electricity from the sun’s rays.

Photovoltaic systems have been an important part of our everyday lives for many years. Our calculators and wristwatches are sometimes powered by PV systems along with water pumps, lights, and appliances. In many cases, PV power can be the least expensive form of electricity.
